Suspected Impaired Hit and Run Driver Arrested By Elk Grove Police

An Elk Grove man was arrested after he allegedly rear-ended another vehicle while driving under the influence.

Just before 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, Philip Westman, 25, allegedly rear-ended a vehicle near Laguna Boulevard and I-5. Westman did not stop, but Elk Grove Police were provided a license number and vehicle description.    

Officers responded to the registered owners address and located the described vehicle and contacted Westman who was inside the residence. Officers determined that Westman was operating the vehicle at the time of the collision. 

During their contact, officers also determined Westman displayed objective signs of impairment and performed poorly on a subsequent field sobriety tests. Westman was booked into the county jail where he remains in custody on three misdemeanor charges.
