Visit Elk Grove, the group of local hotel operators who have tasked themselves with boosting tourism to Elk Grove, have decided not to renew the contract of its executive director.

According to an email from executive director David Brooks, VEG's board of directors have decided not to renew his contract.

In his email, Brooks stated, "I'm sorry to have to inform you in this manner, but the VEG Board has decided not to renew my contract as executive director at this time. "

In his role as executive director, which he started on August 1, 2016, Brooks was tasked with building a tourism organization from the ground up and create a destination brand for Elk Grove. A 13-year tourism veteran, previous to relocating to Elk Grove, Brooks was executive director of Pennsylvania’s Potter County Visitors Association.

In January VEG and the City of Elk Grove's economic development department hired North Star Destination Strategies of Nashville, Tenn. to help create a "brand" for the city and their collective efforts to transform the city into a tourist destination.

As part of that project, the website www.BrandElkGrove.com was launched to explain the purpose of the efforts.

Brooks, nor Elk Grove's economic development director Darrell Doan, responded to email inquiries regarding the move.

Although closely aligned with the City of Elk Grove, VEG is a private, not-for-profit, 501(c)6 organization
