First in Series of Community Meetings on Elk Grove Race Relations This Thursday

October 16, 2017 |

The first in a series of three planned community meetings on race relations in Elk Grove is scheduled for this Thursday evening.

This meeting, which will be held at the United Methodist Church, 8986 Elk Grove Blvd., is being organized by a coalition of community-based groups including the California Council of Churches, Elk Grove United Methodist Church, Sacramento NAACP, and the South County African American Coalition.

The meeting is scheduled for two hours and will start at 6 p.m. Facilitators for the session are LaKenya Jordan and Addie Ellis.

The other two community meetings on race relations are being organized by the City of Elk Grove. Those meetings are scheduled for October 23 and 30.

The meetings are being held following community response to hate incidents in Elk Grove. In one of those incidents, an African American owned business in Old Town Elk Grove was targeted by a hate message left at the establishment.
