Motorist Hits Fire Hydrant, Arrested by Elk Grove Police on Suspicion of Impaired Driving

Elk Grove Police arrested a suspect after an early morning incident when he allegedly hit a fire hydrant with his vehicle.

Just before 1:30 a.m. on Monday, October 9, police officers found a vehicle on the 8700 block of Shasta Lily Drive that had collided with a fire hydrant. The motorist, Mario Sandoval Gonzalez, 39, of Sacramento, was in the driver's seat and unresponsive.

The police officers broke a window to render aid to Gonzales. Upon awakening the suspect, he displayed objective signs of impairment. 

After he was medically cleared at an area hospital, Gonzales was arrested, booked into the county jail and has been released.
