Detours Scheduled in Elk Grove For Bilby, Sheldon Roads For Railroad Repairs

The City of Elk Grove announced there will be two major detours starting Monday, December 11 to accommodate railroad crossing repairs.


Union Pacific Railroad has scheduled repairs to their railroad crossings at Sheldon Road and Bilby Road next week beginning on Monday, December 11 and continuing through Friday, December 15.

This closure will affect all east and westbound traffic on Sheldon Road between Springhurst Drive and Elk Grove-Florin Road in the northeast area and east and westbound traffic on Bilby Road between Willard Parkway and Franklin Boulevard on the city’s southwest side.

A full 24-hour closure will be in place at both locations over the five day period. This closure will include emergency and pedestrian traffic. Access for all property owners and businesses will be maintained.

Increased Travel Times & Detours: Through traffic is advised to avoid this area during the closure period. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes until project work is completed. Detour signs and electronic message boards will be in place to alert motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists about the temporary closure.

Construction Activities: Work to repair the railroad crossings is scheduled and performed by Union Pacific Railroad work crews.

Closure Period: Both roadways are scheduled to close beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, December 11 and re-open by 5 p.m. on Friday, December 15.
