Two Suspects Arrested After Early Morning Tobacco Robbery, Led Elk Grove Police on Vehicle Pursuit

December 11, 2017 |

Two Sacramento men are being held at the Sacramento County Jail after they led Elk Grove Police on a vehicle pursuit after an early morning shoplifting incident.

Just before 4 a.m. on Sunday, December 10, Detrevious Lorenzo Patterson, 20, and Dabria Ortiz, 21, allegedly stole tobacco products from the Walgreens drugstore on Laguna Boulevard. Patterson reportedly threatened employees and demanded more tobacco products.

After the employees complied, Patterson noticed one of the employees called 911, and he hit the phone out of the employee's hand. Responding police officers found Ortiz and Patterson entering a vehicle, instructed them to stop, but they did not follow commands.

Both fled in a vehicle being driven Ortiz, and a short pursuit commenced. The vehicle stopped when it hit a median and Patterson fled on foot but was detained after a brief struggle.

Ortiz exited the vehicle, refused to follow officers’ instructions but was eventually restrained and taken into custody. Ortiz displayed signs of impairment and performed poorly on field sobriety tests.

Patterson is being held a $50,000 bail and is facing one misdemeanor and three felony charges while Ortiz is being held on a $1 million bail and faces four felony and two misdemeanor charges. Both will be arraigned on Tuesday, December 12.
