Suspect Breaks Bottles at Elk Grove Liquor Store, Caught With Help of Police Helicopter

A suspect who allegedly smashed booze bottles and damaged a door at an Elk Grove liquor store was apprehended with the help of a police helicopter.

Just after 9:30 pm. on Sunday, February 11 Vincent Stephens, 36, of Elk Grove, walked into the Total Wine and More store on Laguna Boulevard and allegedly broke several bottles of liquor. As he was exiting the store, he damaged the front doors and fled on foot.

Responding Elk Grove Police officers witnessed Stephens flee and jump into a backyard of a nearby residence. With the assistance of the Sacramento Police Department helicopter, Stephens was located hiding in the yard of an adjacent neighborhood.   

Stephens was arrested and booked into the county jail and is remain in custody on two misdemeanor charges with a $1,000 bail. Arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday, February 14.

It is a good thing the EGPD caught the suspect, but I must wonder does the Sacramento Police Department charge for use of their air unit? If so, is using funds to catch a suspect charged with two misdemeanors and held on only $1,000 bail a good use of resources?
