Arrests made in Elk Grove house party shooting

August 6, 2018 |

Elk Grove Police have arrested two suspects on Saturday, August 4 in connection with a shooting incident that happened at a house party last weekend.

The incident occurred just before midnight on Saturday, July 28 on Spring Flower Drive. The shooter was identified as Billy Jean Harris, 42, and his girlfriend Trameka Stafford, 37, both of Elk Grove, who tried to conceal Harris' involvement.

At that incident, Harris and Stafford allegedly fired several shots that hit vehicles and at least one residence. There were no injuries.

Using video surveillance from several residents and nearby businesses, police investigators were able to link the two suspects to the shooting. They were both arrested in a motel parking lot in Stockton after being placed under surveillance.

The shooting prompted a community meeting held at Elk Grove City Hall on Thursday, August 2 to address neighborhood concerns.

Harris is currently on parole and is being charged with assault with a deadly weapon and a felon in possession of a firearm and Stafford was arrested by being an accessory after the crime. In addition to the Stockton arrest, police executed a search warrant at their Elk Grove residence on Spring Flower Way and found four pounds of marijuana and a vehicle search led to the discovery of brass knuckles.

Harris is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow and Stafford has been released on bail.
