Elk Grove News Minute - Gary Davis' latest scheme

If nothing else can be said about former Elk Grove Mayor Gary Davis, it is he has taken the advice of former Chicago mayor, congressman, and Chief of Staff to President Obama, Rahn Emmanuel to heart. That advise, which Emanuel famously said in a Wall Street Journal interview was "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste."

Although it is not quite a crisis, this week Davis seems to have exploited the for-profit California Northstate University's public relations quandary over their proposed $750 million hospital in Elk Grove's Stonelake neighborhood.

nsight regarding the real Gary Davis revealed itself two years after he was first elected to the Elk Grove City Council. His 2006 last minute replacement campaign manager ran for Elk Grove City Council in 2008, challenging incumbent Sophia Scherman and Davis refused to endorse her.

When a friend and I met with Gary regarding Election 2008 – never meet with him alone so you always have a witness – we asked him why he wasn’t supporting his friend and former campaign manager. Davis responded, “Why would I support someone who could challenge me some day?”

In other words, in my opinion, with Davis, loyalty be damned, as he actively worked to kill the political future of the very person who got him elected in the first place.

At that time, I couldn’t believe Davis could be so callous. But as Maya Angelou is famous for saying, “When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.”

So watch out Darren Suen, Steve Ly, Pat Hume and anyone else Davis is budding up to these days. You may have a political bulls eye on your back!

EGN needs to back off. I am impressed with Gary Davis!

Our Mayor Emeritus packed the City Council Chambers with young swimmers and soccer players so he could put us on a spending path that would give him votes from grateful parents looking for taxpayer subsidized recreation facilities.

Our Mayor Emeritus then went and found us a 100-acre hayfield outside the city-limits for a major league soccer franchise. He then had the cohonees to stand up to Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson and yes, actually called him a ball-hog! Then he went to Texas to "light a fire" under Howard Hughes to build the mall.

Our Mayor Emeritus is a financial wizard too. He started a chain of successful coffee shops and proclaimed he would donate 10% of the profits to some abused women non-profit group as a marketing ploy. Something about changing the world by buying coffee beans from El Salvador too.

Then about that time, the city was looking into buying some fancy computer programs from a nationwide vendor and our Mayor Emeritus bought into that company too. Then on a roll to change the world, our Mayor Emeritus started a non-profit that currently has city contracts for special events. Then seizing the opportunity again, our Mayor Emeritus plugged Home Depot on social media to promote his recently remodeled kitchen. Then, our Mayor Emeritus plugged Elk Grove Honda in an online ad, presumably to leverage a discount for some new wheels.

EGN needs to back off. Our Mayor Emeritus can smell money as far away as China!
