Man driving ATV on sidewalk stopped, arrested by Elk Grove Police



A man Elk Grove Police officers allegedly saw driving an all-terrain vehicle on a sidewalk was arrested on numerous charges.

On the evening of Friday, July 5, officers on patrol near Elk Grove Boulevard and Emerald Oak Drive observed Derek Hoffman, 33, of Elk Grove driving the ATV on a sidewalk. Hoffman was not wearing a helmet and the ATV did not have lights.

After being stopped with the assistance of a K-9 officer stopped, and a record search revealed Hoffman was on probation. Officers also found the serial number for the ATV had been scratched.

However, police found another serial number placed on the vehicle by the owner. A records check revealed the ATV had bee reported stolen.   

Hoffman was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, violation of probation and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. Hoffman is in custody at the county jail and will be arraigned on Tuesday, July 9.
