I-5 traffic advisory - 3 year HOV lane, congestion relief enhancements underway

From California Highway Patrol, CALTRANS |

The Sac-5 Corridor Enhancement Project will reduce congestion on I-5, by installing 67 miles of new and rehabilitated lanes. Construction will start south of Elk Grove Blvd and continue to the American River viaduct. In addition, 23 miles of High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes will be added to help reduce the amount of time spent on the road and encourage ride-sharing.

This will be the biggest highway project to occur in Sacramento since the original I-5 project was completed in 1975. The project is expected to be completed by December 2022.

During this time, we ask for your patience with possible delays due to construction. The South Sacramento CHP Area will be strictly enforcing the 55 mph speed limit in construction zones. We also want to remind you that the workers in the cone zones have families waiting for them at home so please always slow for the cone zone!
