Elk Grove Police patrol unit damaged after suspect led pursuit in stolen car

A probationer was arrested after he led Elk Grove Police on a pursuit in stolen car that began when he intentionally tried to damage two patrol units.

Early in the evening of Saturday, September 14 patrol officers located a reported stolen car near Bond Road and East Stockton Boulevard. Two units were parked behind the car, which was driven by Gonzalo Rodriguez, 34, when he intentionally put his vehicle in reverse and backed into the patrol cars.

Rodriguez then led police on a pursuit into Sacramento that ended near Cosumnes River Boulevard and I-5 where he was involved in a minor collision with another vehicle. Rodriguez then continued into an open field, exited the vehicle and ran through the field.

Rodriguez was apprehended with the assistance of a police K9. During the field pursuit, one of our patrol vehicles that followed the suspect into the open field caught fire due to the dry grass.

Rodriguez, who also has an outstanding warrant for the Livermore Police Department, is held at the county jail. Arraignment for motor vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading, hit and run, resisting arrest and violation of probation is on Tuesday, September 17.
