As she has predicted in a series of press releases and postings on social media, Democratic candidate for California's 9th Assembly District Tracie Stafford has narrowed the gap between herself and Republican Eric Rigard in the contest for the second-place finish in last week's California primary.

In tallies released this afternoon by Sacramento County, Stafford has now captured 23-percent of the vote while Rigard has 27-percent. Tallies released last Friday for Sacramento County had Stafford at 21-percent, and Rigard at 30-percent.

Following last week's tallies, Stafford took to social media (see video below) when only 37,000 votes in that race in Sacramento County had been counted. As of this afternoon, 65,000 votes have been counted and there are 149,982 uncounted total ballots for all jurisdictions in the county.

In San Joaquin County, where all 8,275 ballots for the 9th District have been counted, Rigard has 56-percent, incumbent Democratic Assemblymember Jim Cooper has 24-percent and Stafford has 12-percent. Rigard is a resident of Lodi.

Stafford and Rigard are fighting for the second-place finish to challenge Cooper in the November election. The California Secretary of State has not updated its results for the contest since last Friday.
