An accident where one car drove head-on to another vehicle resulted in the death of three people.

Just before 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, a sedan was traveling northbound on State Route 160 just north of Sherman Island Cross Road when for an unknown reason, the driver of the car lost control and crossed into the southbound lanes. When the sedan crossed lanes it did so directly in front of an SUV going southbound.

The driver of the Toyota SUV was unable to avoid a collision and it collided into the side of the sedan. As a result of the collision, the three occupants of the sedan, two adults and one juvenile, sustained fatal injuries.
The two occupants of the Toyota sustained minor injuries and were transported by ambulance by the Rio Vista Fire Department to a local hospital for treatment. Traffic at this location was affected for approximately four hours for the investigation and scene clean up.
The identities of the deceased will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after next of kin is notified. Alcohol and/or drugs are being investigated as factors in this collision.
