Firework display in Elk Grove will go on even though annual 'Salute to Red, White and Blue' festivities cancelled

Even though the City of Elk Grove and the Cosumnes Community Services District has canceled the annual Independence Day celebration because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the popular firework display will be held this Saturday night.

For the last 23 years years, the event known as the Salute to the Red White and Blue, sponsored by the City of Elk Grove in conjunction with the CCSD, was held at Elk Grove Regional Park. The day-long, July 4th family-friendly event included entertainment and culminated with a firework display after sunset.

Even though the festival is canceled, the Elk Grove City Council approved the expenditure for the firework display.

The display will be conducted an undisclosed location, starting at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 4. That display is expected to be held at a place where most Elk Grove residents will be able to view the show.

Even though the display will go on, the city has advised, following state guidelines, that large gatherings are prohibited.

To enhance the show, the Independence Day fireworks display, thought to be the only one in the Sacramento region, will be broadcast on KXTV Channel 10 (ABC), and a music concert is being simulcast on 93.7 FM.
