Re: With ex-Elk Grove mayor rumored to be declaring candidacy, is a Davis, Spease, Suen slate on the horizon?

Rumor has it Ex-Mayor Gary Davis is considering another run at Elk Grove Mayor!

Does the City of Elk Grove need a candidate for Mayor who's already served his time as Mayor? Does the City need a Mayor that has done nothing but profit off of his "experience" as Ex-Mayor? Take a look at how much money Gary Davis has made consulting for some of the city's most challenging projects (CNU Hospital, Casino Project, Private Charter School projects....the list goes on and on).

Does the City need to spend senseless dollars on marketing campaigns focused on making Elk Grove a tourist destination? Does the City need yet another candidate for Mayor who is really just looking for yet another way to boost his own ego?

Let's call a spade a spade, Gary Davis is just a typical politician out to make a buck while posting a selfie on social media claiming the fame for yet another massive project doing no good for our city!

Speak up and speak out about how we deserve better from our local electeds.

Sherry Templeton,
Elk Grove

I agree with Ms. Templeton, except for the ego part. Gary Davis would not be seeking the Mayor's seat for his ego. Nope, just like Ly, I contend that Davis would be seeking to convert the Mayor's position to a full-time salaried position.

Early in his term, Ly bemused the fact that he had a full-time day job and that he felt the Mayor was a full-time job and deserved a full-time salary. He even went so far as I recall, to suggest the position should pay as much as Police Lieutenant (currently tops out at $181,000/yr).

With the goal of securing three votes to convert Council positions to full-time paid positions, watch Ly and Davis attempt to assemble and endorse a slate of like-minded District 1 and District 3 candidates who will also support this gambit. No, this isn't about creating a tourist destination, feeding egos, representing constituents, or whatever catchy slogan they come up with--it's all about the Benjamins!

Maybe council which includes our esteemed mayor should start proving their salt by reflecting on what public service actually means. It does not mean private service, or benefiting oneself. The audacity of expecting a full time salary when council doesn't even read, digest, and analyze the staff reports presented to them. Apparently, it is common nature for politicians to avoid reading lengthy documents without photos or videos. Twenty years since the city incorporated and what do we have to show for it? Concrete jungles, traffic lights, strip malls, a ghost mall, and an inept, corrupt council alongside a inept, corrupt city hall. Does anyone know what the hell goes on inside city hall? The city budget only tells half a tale...
