Elk Grove dog groomer sentenced in animal cruelty case

An Elk Grove dog groomer who pled guilty in February to felony animal cruelty charges was sentenced today.

Stephanie Frentz, who owned the Soapy Paws grooming business in Elk Grove was sentenced to 180 days in jail, two years probation, and ordered not to groom animals for 10 years.

According to information released by the Sacramento District Attorney's office, on May 29, 2020 Frentz was grooming a Minature Schnauzer. The dog fell off the grooming table and Frentz did not come to the aid of the dog for several minutes.

The dog died of strangulation and an investigation led by the Elk Grove Animal Control unit of the Elk Grove Police Department determined that Frentz's negligence led to the death. According to the investigation, Frentz was not forthcoming during investigation.
