One Elk Grove City Council member's affordable housing success is another's shortfall

Councilmember Pat Hume says Elk Grove's 1,800 affordable housing in 21 years is an untold success. | 



During their recent meeting, two Elk Grove City Council members offered slightly different assessments of how the city is addressing its so-called RHNA goals. The discussion came during a hearing on the city's approval of a loan for affordable housing units in Elk Grove.

RHNA, or regional housing needs allocation are goals established for California municipalities to provide affordable housing opportunities. While the city council approved the loan terms presented at the meeting for additional units, council members Pat Hume and Darren Suen provided slightly different narratives about the city's effort to fulfill this obligation.
