SmaRT Ride on demand micro-transit service starts tomorrow in Elk Grove




As part of tomorrow's formal start date of the reunification of Sacramento Regional Transit and the City of Elk Grove, local transit riders will now be offered additional apps-based on-demand services. SacRT will now offer its SmaRT Ride on Demand to Elk Grove and South Sacramento residents. 

The new Elk Grove zone will offer the curb-to-curb on-demand shuttle service primarily between Waterman Road and Grant Line Road, with additional coverage in the Vineyard area, north of Calvine Road, as far north as Florin Road, from Elk Grove-Florin Road to Bradshaw Road, and as far north as Gerber Road, between Bradshaw Road and Excelsior Road. There are no immediate plans to expand the on-demand service to other neighborhoods in Elk Grove. 

SacRT and Elk Grove reunited after several years when Elk Grove operated its own contract-based transit services known as eTran. That system started not long after Elk Grove's 2000 incorporation and was beleaguered for much of its existence by service failures and other operational problems.
