Overnight warming location to open Thursday in Elk Grove

From the City of Elk Grove |

The Elk Grove Overnight Warming Location (OWL) Cooperative will open a warming location at Elk Grove United Methodist Church located at 8986 Elk Grove Boulevard beginning this Thursday, December 9 and operating nightly through Tuesday, December 14.

This will be the first overnight warming location to open under the new program announced last month by a service network that includes the City of Elk Grove, Cosumnes Fire Department, Elk Grove HART and volunteers from local churches and the Volunteers in Police Service (VIPs). Organizers initiated the opening of the OWL this week because projected temperatures will fall to or below a 34 degree RealFeel two days in a row, followed by a 75-percent probability of rain over Sunday and Monday.

The OWL is open to adults 18 and older who lack shelter or adequate home heating. Operating hours will be 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. each day. Pets are not permitted. Face coverings will be required unless visitors are eating or sleeping. Families with children will be referred to a motel voucher program coordinated by EG HART.

Visit elkgrovecity.org/owl for more information about the program or to sign up to receive notifications whenever an OWL is scheduled to open.
