Although we have entered a new, and with vigilance, the final stages of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, it was about two years ago that we just began to grasp the seriousness of the situation.

Below are images (see video) at the Elk Grove Winco and Pacific Island grocery stores on Saturday. March 16, 2020. With customers rushing to get groceries, traffic congestion around Elk Grove and other communities seemingly disappeared as workers were either laid off or tethered to at-home work while students adopted distance learning.

Even as we seem to be returning to normal, there are a few warning signs that the virus will be with us for years. New variants are developing quickly, and the biggest wave of cases in China since the 2020 Wuhan outbreak is now happening.

Things are returning to normal, and though we remain cautiously optimistic, vigilance is needed.
