Voters asked if they consider Supervisor candidate Pat Hume a 'Trump friendly' Republican and other questions in text-based survey

In a signal of the importance that each major political party is placing on the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors District 5 race, a reader shared screenshots of a text-based survey they received yesterday.

While no candidate or independent committee was disclosed on the Survey Monkey-based service, the questions seemed to slant towards Elk Grove City Councilmember and supervisorial candidate Republican Pat Hume. There were poll elements that could be characterized as so-called push-poll-type questions (all the questions can be viewed in the video below).

When asking about former Elk Grove Mayor Steve Ly, respondents were asked their opinion on accusations he faced during the 2020 Elk Grove mayoral campaign. Ly, who is running as no party preference, Hume, and Democratic Cosumnes Community Services District Director Jaclyn Moreno are considered the top tier candidates to replace long-serving Supervisor Don Nottoli.

The survey also addressed Hume's possible support for former Republican President Donald Trump. Hume has voiced concern about the national atmosphere of political divisiveness, but he has not formally condemned the former President like other Republicans, most notably representatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger.

In an apparent effort to minimize any potential support Hume has for the unpopular former President, the survey adds he has worked with a handful of area Democratic officials. Most prominent among them is Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen, who bucked party loyalty and endorsed Hume.

The survey also asked about an effort underway to raise Sacramento County sales taxes and a possible effort in Elk Grove. Although the Elk Grove City Council has not recently discussed raising local sales taxes, they have expressed their desire to increase tax burdens for several years.
