Guerra expresses optimism of a top two finish in District 10 California Assembly race

With the next batch of vote tallies to be released in about 24 hours, District 10 California Assembly candidate Eric Guerra issued a statement today expressing confidence.

Guerra is currently in second place behind fellow Democrat Stephanie Nguyen in the race for one of the top two spots in Tuesday's primary. The top two finishers will advance to the November general election.

In his email titled "Thank You and Still Counting," Guerra thanked campaign volunteers and supporters. He also struck a hopeful note that there were many uncounted votes in Sacramento County.

Guerra said:

"The Registrar of Voters is not done counting. We know that there are over 150,000 votes Countywide to be counted and we are optimistic that we will continue on to the runoff. Our team will be back with an update when we know more."

Even though Guerra is second in the five-candidate field, he holds a razor-thin margin over Republican Eric Rigard. Guerra has 26.83-percent of the votes with 7,561, while Rigard has 7,511. Nguyen has 33.41-percent with 9,414 votes.

Although Rigard's campaign had minimal fundraising, in the campaign's closing days, an independent expenditure committee sent mailers to independent and Republican voters promoting his candidacy. That mailer may have helped Rigard, who did not send any campaign literature on his own behalf.
