Videos highlight contrasting comments - Critic thanks Hume for years of service, Elk Grove Mayor Singh-Allen insults him

Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen insults Pat Hume during his last meeting as an Elk Grove City Council member. |

As the last remaining person at Elk Grove City Hall, who has been there since the city's July 2000 incorporation, last night ended City Councilmember Pat Hume's 22 years of service.

Hume, who did not seek reelection to a fifth term, was elected to the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. As one of the original planning commissioners appointed by his political mentor, former Elk Grove City Councilmember Sophia Scherman, Hume served on the commission until 2006, when he won a seat on the city council.

As part of his last nights on the city council, many comments were made about his tenure. However, it was noteworthy the contrasting style of the comments.

During public comment, Lynn Wheat thanked Hume for his years of service. A critic of the city's land use policies, which Hume consistently supported, Wheat nonetheless acknowledged his contributions.

"Councilmember Hume, it was always clear to me that you were the most prepared for each meeting and had thoroughly reviewed your packet and prepared with relevant questions and analysis," Wheat said.

Wheat added, "I believe he [Hume] is the smartest one up there."

Additionally, Wheat thanked Hume for supporting her idea to explore the deployment of tiny homes to address Elk Grove's growing homeless population. As noted by Wheat, both were criticized for their advocacy which effectively killed deep exploration of the idea.

Conversely, even though Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and Hume are supposedly longtime friends, some of her comments about him were unflattering. In essence, Singh-Allen told Hume in front of a standing-room-only city council chamber audience that people think he is unsavory.

See the comments of Wheat and Singh-Allen in the videos.

Imagine an employee in a work setting getting a promotion, and during a going away party a co-worker says "Hey Bob, I don't care what they say about you, you are a good guy, no matter what they have said"!

Funny remarks from a funny mayor.

At least Madame Mayor didn't say that she started Hume's political career like she said of Nguyen last night!

Notice Spease on the computer monitor at the lower right by the podium while Madame Mayor is bellowing. The citizens of Puerto Vallarta heard that one! Now Madame can add foreign relations to her political resume!

Sadly, I don't think BSA is smart enough to realize that she insulted Hume. In her mind, she probably felt that she showed empathy. Regardless, EG is stuck with her for at least two more years. Way to go voters!

Bobbie Singh-Allen is too much with her emotional tribute about the real Pat Hume. I guess BSA never read Maya Angelou’s famous quote, paraphrasing, “When Hume showed who us who he was, we believed him the first time.” Ask Bob Felts!

As far as Lynn Wheat’s tribute to Hume, she did remind us what he is all about, “Rooftops and Retail!” In Hume’s own words, he is a “Developer’s Delight!”

What’s next for BSA on her “Look at me tour?” Her own digital trading cards at $99 each (not itemized reportable contributions that way)!

As they might say in Northern Michigan,'Holy wah, she said that about Hume!'
