With overnight lows forecast below freezing for six days, Elk Grove to operate warming locations for the next three nights

With the National Weather Service forecasting overnight lows below freezing for the next six days, the City of Elk Grove will open overnight warming centers for the next three nights.

The centers will operate from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following day. As per city policy, the location of the center will change daily.

Tonight's warming center will be operated at The Center at District56, 8230 Civic Center Drive. Tuesday night's operation will be held at the Wackford Community Complex, 9014 Bruceville Road, and the location for Wednesday night has not been disclosed.

Users must be over 18 years of age, and pets are not permitted. Facemasks are required unless a participant is eating or sleeping.

Families with children will be provided motel vouchers under a program administered by Elk Grove Hart.

According to the city's press release, "Cosumnes Fire Department CERT, Elk Grove Police Department, and Elk Grove HART volunteers will staff the OWL. Organizers initiated the OWL opening because projected temperatures will fall to or below 32 degrees three or more days in a row."
