Dickinson, Walton advance to general election for Sacramento City Council District 2

In a sparsely participated primary election, Roger Dickinson and Stephen Walton advanced to the November general election for Sacramento City Council District 2. The winner will take the seat vacated by former City Councilmember Sean Loolole, who resigned after being indicted on federal criminal charges.
Dickinson came in first place with 2,587 votes for 44 percent, while political newcomer Stephen Walton came in second with 933 votes for 16 percent. Had Dickinson captured more than 50 percent of the vote in the seven-candidate race, he would have won the seat and avoided the November runoff. 
A longtime Sacramento political figure, Dickinson served on the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors for 16 years, followed by four years in the California Assembly. In 2014, Dickinson lost a bid to the California State Senate to Dr. Richard Pan. 
A lifelong resident of District 2, Mr. Walton has been active in neighborhood beautification and community watch programs. Although new to political campaigning, Walton has high-visibility endorsements from Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho, Sacramento County Supervisor Pat Hume, Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen, the California Apartment Association, and Region Business.
