Elk Grove Unified School District Area 7 candidate snags important endorsement

UPDATED 1:45 p.m. April 1 |

A candidate for Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Trustees snagged an important endorsement in their quest to join the board.

Heidi Moore, who declared her candidacy early this year, announced the Sacramento County Deputy Sheriffs' Association has endorsed her candidacy. Moore is seeking the District 4 seat occupied by Carmine Forcina.

"We are pleased to endorse Heidi Moore for the Elk Grove School Board, Area 7, "Sergeant Nathan Seger, President of SCDS, said in the endorsement announcement. "Her commitment to educational issues, particularly school safety, is commendable."

A frequent speaker at EGUSD trustee board meetings, Ms. Moore, a resident of Ranch Cordova, has recently advocated for schools in the portions of Rancho Cordova that are part of the EGUSD. Additionally, Moore urged the district to remove books from district schools that she and others have characterized as pornographic.

Along with support from the sheriff's association, the social media page for momarmy.elkgrove, which has also been critical of the district, recently added a post supporting Moore's candidacy. Moore has not listed momarmy.elkgrove on her campaign's website list of endorsements

Separately, momearmy.elkgrove, which is affiliated with the nationwide Mom Army group was active in calling for a district wide walk out following a controversy at Pleasant Grove Elementary regarding the formation of a so-called rainbow club. Additionally the group has called California Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen an anti-family legislator.

Supported by Sacramento area Democratic organizations, Forcina has occasionally supported conservative stances taken by Moore and other district parents. Forcina has not announced if he will seek a fourth term.

If Moore wins the seat, her addition to the board would change dynamics. Board members Michael Vargas, Gina Jamerson, and Nancy Chaires-Espinoza have more liberal stances than Moore.

UPDATE
Story updated to reflect the calls for a walk out were posted on the momarmy.elkgrove social media, not Ms. Moore's.
