The controversial $700 billion financial bailout was voted down by congress today.

Two members of our local congressional delegation vote in favor, one against. Republican Dan Lungren of Gold River and Democrat Doris Matsui of Sacramento voted in favor. Outgoing Republican John Doolittle of Roseville voted against it.

The final vote was 205 yes versus 228 no. Voting did not follow party lines.

In the aftermath of the historic vote, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S & P 500 Index both collapsed.
