In another incident, car thief suspect evades police, K9 and helicopter

Early Saturday morning Elk Grove police arrested two validated gang members on suspicion of concealable weapons charges. If convicted, the two suspects could face enhanced charges for being gang members.

Police reports say that suspects Jason Gonzales and Victor Vega were initially pulled over for vehicle code violations and voluntary submitted to a vehicle search. Officers discovered the loaded handgun under the passenger-side front seat.

The pair were arrested and transported to county jail. A 15-year old male juvenile suspect who was with Gonzales and Vega was cited and released to his parents.

In other activity, late Saturday night police attempted to arrest a suspected car thief in the vicinity of Sheldon Rd and Vytina in north Elk Grove. Patrol officers identified the car as being stolen in a Sacramento residential burglary.

After attempting to stop the driver and following a short vehicular pursuit, the suspect fled on foot. Police tried locating the suspect with the assistance of a K9 unit as well as a helicopter patrol to no avail.

Police have identified the outstanding suspect and have issued a warrant for his arrest. No further information regarding the suspect was released.
