One Of Two Elk Grove Chili's Restaurants to Close Today

Battered by weak economy, Elk Grove-Florin Rd. Store To seize operation Today

When the Chili's on Elk Grove-Florin Rd. near Calvine closes permanently for business later today, it may be quite some time before the relatively new structure finds another tenant as Elk Grove suffers through the recession.

Brinker International, which operates Chili's and several other national restaurant chains, is closing 35 stores nationally. Locally, the Chili's in Lincoln was also shuttered.

Brinker cited lagging sales for the closure of the 35 stores.

Other chains in peril?

Brinker also operates Macaroni Grille and On the Border which has one of each in Elk Grove. Macaroni Grille, along with Mimi's Cafe and the Old Spaghetti Factory are all said to be suffering from quickly declining sales. With the closure of Chili's and the continued softening of consumer spending, don't be surprised to see other closures.
