The foreclosure crisis continued unabated in February as home foreclosures in Northern California increased eight percent from the same period last year according to Default Research Co. of Mt. Pleasant, Pa.

Northern California counties with the highest percent of households in foreclosure were Solano with 8.47, Contra Costa 7.88 and Sacramento at 7.42. In Sacramento County the hardest hit communities were Sacramento with 1,443 in foreclosure proceeding and Elk Grove with 400.

In Sacramento County, foreclosures were up 2.09 percent from the same period last year. The foreclosure rate dipped slightly in February compared to January with 3,354 foreclosures versus 3.367.

Last February there were 3,295 foreclosures in Sacramento County compared to 3,364 this February. In the last 12 months there 40,997 homes were in foreclosure proceedings in Sacramento County.
