Last night at 10:24 p.m., the Elk Grove Police Department responded to a vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle near the intersection of E. Stockton Blvd. and Teresa Way .

Upon arrival, officers discovered that a 1997 Acura TL traveling northbound on E. Stockton Blvd. had rear ended a motorcycle also traveling northbound on E. Stockton Blvd. The motorcyclist was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries. The name of the deceased motorcyclist will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

The lone occupant and driver of the Acura, later identified as 33-year-old Rebecca Vela a Sacramento resident, was contacted at the scene and displayed objective signs of impairment. Vela was subsequently arrested and transported to the Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of Murder and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs.

The Elk Grove Police Department Traffic Bureau will be conducting an investigation into the collision. Based on witness statements, investigators believe that Vela was travelling northbound in the southbound lane of traffic on E. Stockton Blvd. at a high rate of speed prior to the collision. Vela apparently swerved back into the correct lane of travel and rear ended the motorcyclist that was travelling northbound on E. Stockton Blvd.

Due to the ongoing nature of this investigation, a photograph of Vela will not be released at this time. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to call the Traffic Bureau at (916)478-8131.

Apparantly she is being charged with a hit and run as well so it sounds like she left him to die after she smashed into him.
