The Wednesday, May 27 meeting of the Elk Grove City Council meeting could be another marathon session that lasts into the early morning hours of Thursday morning. The council’s last meeting on May, 13 ran from 6 p.m. until 12:30 am.
In addition to the consent calendar, the council will conduct one public hearing and will have 11 items on the regular agenda.
Among the most time consuming and important will be the city’s proposed fiscal year 2010 budget. During the last city council meeting when city manger Laura Gill announced the layoff of four employees, she suggested that action was a prelude to what was to follow.
Like other local municipalities, Elk Grove has been severely affected by the recession which has lowered property and sales tax revenues. Many economist don't expect a major turn-around for at least two years.
Tomorrow's regular meeting convenes at 6:00 pm, the closed session starts at 5:00 p.m.
