Temporary Weekend Road Closure

South Watt Ave (Folsom Blvd. to Kiefer Blvd.)
June 26 - 8 PM to June 29 - 5 AM

From 8:00 PM on Friday, June 26, to 5:00 AM on Monday, June 29, 2009, both directions of South Watt Avenue will be closed between Folsom Boulevard and Kiefer Boulevard for construction work necessary to remove a section of light rail tracks at this location. With construction completed for the new light rail bridge over Watt Avenue, this section of tracks is no longer needed. Work being completed during this weekend’s road closure includes removal of old tracks, base repair and roadway resurfacing.

This closure will not affect traffic going east or west bound on Folsom Boulevard, or north on Watt Avenue from Folsom Boulevard. The public is advised to avoid this area during construction hours as there will be significant impacts to motorists who use South Watt Avenue. Detours will be in place to guide motorists around the construction area. Access will be maintained at all times for local residents and businesses.

This track removal work is part of an ongoing Sacramento County Department of Transportation (SACDOT) project, in conjunction with the Sacramento Regional Transit District, to build a bridge for light rail trains over Watt Avenue. Additional Watt Avenue at Folsom Boulevard roadway improvements include three (3) through lanes in each direction on Watt Avenue, dedicated right-turn lanes on all roadway approaches, upgraded pedestrian and bicycle facilities and landscaping.
