Over the next several days Elk Grove News will present an analysis of the monetary contributions received by each of city council candidates based on the California 460 filings with the city clerk.

Update Tenative Schedule. Cooper: Sunday, Davis: Monday, Detrick: Wednesday, Scherman: Friday.

As many of you may have guessed the ‘Mother’s Milk’ reference comes from the legendary speaker of the California Assembly, Big Daddy Jesse Unruh who said "Money is the mother's milk of politics."

Understanding who, and from where a politician receives contributions from gives constituent an insight in what motivates our elected leaders.

Our first analysis will be on Mayor Pat Hume:

Check back as images of the complete 460 filing for Hume and each council member will be posted.

Can't wait to see Vernon Billy and Gary Davis reports. I bet most of Billy's $$ and Gary's is from the same source. I also heard Capitol Campaigns represents both of them. No deal, okay......

Capitol Campaigns represents both Gary and Vernon? Really? Who will they represent when Gary decides to run for re-election when his dreams of Congress don't pan out?
This is an affirmation that the two of them do have a deal. I hope others step out soon. Pat Perez, where are you?

Is this a lesson in "Dirty Campaign Politics 101?" Diffuse the dirt off of Hume by throwing mud at Davis.

Gee, we can hardly wait until Elk Grove News posts stats on Davis.

Turn about fair play in order?

That's probably because Davis is a 2 faced politician that will use anyone to advance his political career.
Not a Hume fan either so God help us all.

Does the picture of Hume come with darts in the form of Gary Davis and Obama????

I agree with your post- Pat Perez would make a great council-member. He served us well in the CSD.

Let's face it people, Gary will say and do anything for higher office. He bailed Natomas School Board when he saw the opportunity in Elk Grove. He lied by saying City Council was a stepping stone, and is now running for Congress.

I support those who seek higher office when they show they are commited to our community and have a clear record of accomplishment.
Accomplishment cannot be defined as "he's a nice person". We need leaders, not those that campaign from the dais.

Cooper has demonstrated leadership and commitment to community. I will back him in his sheriff's bid. Davis on the other hand is all about Davis. Let's send him packing to the next City.

The turning point of Gary Davis was when he endorsed Scherman over his trusted friend and campaign manager Catherine. Not dirty politics, just the facts. Why did he do this?

How many of you has he used?

Pat Hume is not impressive either. Developers have enough control over this city. Paul Lindsey should consider running.

Lindsey is one who never caved in to developers that is for sure. They hate him. But he and most of his District 2 supporters don't see eye to eye on the new Catholic Church whose appeal is before the City Council on August 26.

But don't look for Hume to support his constituents on this one either. His good buddy Tim Murphy, who is despised in District 2, is applying the pressure. Murphy has stated that he can deliver Hume's vote.

But with all of Hume's secrets coming out of late, he was overheard loudly telling his beer drinkin' buddies that he has decided not to run for reelection; something about telling his constituents where they could "stick it."

Not nice Hume!

I like Pat Hume. He's not a politician and makes decisions based on the good of the city rather than cater to the vocal minority faction that plagues this site and EGO. You know who you are.
If you are so concerned with what happens in your district versus the good of the city, maybe you should champion district elections so that your council can be responsive to you versus the city.
I also find the comments on Gary Davis to be accurate and enlightening. Pat Perez, hmmm, not a bad idea. I'm sure he has no deal with Gary.

Maybe with one exception, we finally have an Elk Grove City Council made up of strong individuals who can and will work together as a cohesive team for all.

Having a council at odds in the past with Scherman/Briggs/Soares versus Cooper/Leary was detrimental to our city. The proof is all around us.

Personally, I think having a council that works together for the best interests of our community, but also allows for differences of opinion because that’s what creates great ideas and progress.

The voters made changes because we wanted elected officials that demonstrate strength, character, and courage to take on the tough issues.

We supported change, right? So we built them up, only to tear them down?

And for the posters who think District 2 wants single member districts didn’t come to any of the many meetings. You mention single member districts in District 2 and them there’s fighting words in rural Elk Grove!
