Elk Grove City Council Faces Busy Week

Special SOI meeting Tuesday; Potentially contentious church appeal on Wednesday


Considering the three day Labor Day is weekend is upon us, The Elk Grove City may well need the break considering their hectic schedule next week.

On Tuesday night the council will conduct a special meeting sponsored by the Elk Grove Community Connection regarding the city’s proposed sphere of influence (SOI) application. Wednesday night’s regular meeting is expected to be another marathon session.


Under the proposed SOI application with the Sacramento LAFCO, the city could expand the area that it may annex in the future. It is anticipated that the meeting, which will be held at the Elk Grove Unified School’s Trigg Building headquarters at 9510 Elk Grove-Florin Road, will draw a standing-room-only audience.

Aside from a large contingent of Wilton residents who have been critical of the plan, it is believed the meeting will draw many special interest groups, including environmental and labor interests.

Although the agenda for Wednesday's regular meeting have not been posted, sources tell EGN that the agenda items include an appeal by the proponents of the proposed St. Maria Goretti Roman Catholic Church on Bradshaw Road just north of Sheldon Road and a report from the Elk Grove Charter Commission.
