The much anticipated Elk Grove City Council meeting currently underway drew hundreds of people to a pre-meeting rally at the Elk Grove City Hall to whip up support for elimination of the Cosumnes River floodplain from the city's sphere of influence (SOI) application.

Spearheaded by the Elk Grove Coalition Advocating Proper Planning, the rally heard from several speakers including EGCAPP represtative Linda Ford, Wilton Action Group's (WAG) spokesperson Bill Kutzer, Elk Grove City Council member Gary Davis and Vice Mayor Steve Detrick.

Ford opened the rally by thanking the audience for particpating and being actively involved in the process. "We have built a large grass roots coalition," Ford said.

Referencing the four listening sessions held in March reagrding the SOI, Kutzer said the time for action has come.

"We've had enough listening sessions, now is the time for action," Kutzer said. "We want the floodplain out of the SOI."

Gary Davis, the council member who has openly advocated elimination of the floodplain from the SOI whipped-up the crowd and said the city should focus it efforts on other matters.

"The people are here today and the people know what they want," Davis said as the crowd cheered on.

The council is now in session.
