In response to the special meeting of the Elk Grove City Council scheduled for Wednesday, July 21 at 5:00 pm, Elk Grove City Council member Gary Davis has issued the following statement to Elk Grove News:
"I am disappointed that Mayor Scherman hastily called a special meeting to form a committee, breaking a 10 year protocol of first checking on Council Member availability. Unfortunately, I am out of town for work. And, frankly, the meeting is not necessary. Vice-Mayor Detrick, the Elk Grove Community Connection, and I have crafted an ordinance to be introduced at the next Council Meeting. We don’t need to create another committee, we need to act."
The special meeting was scheduled in response to concerns voiced by Elk Grove residents at last weeks city council meeting regarding alleged lewd acts by residents of a juvenile sex offender facility located on Cheer Court.

EGN has e-mailed Mayor Scherman offering her an opportunity to respond to Davis' criticism. This posting will be updated should the mayor respond to our request to comment.

How can Scherman "order" a meeting? The title of Mayor is only ceremonial and carries no more authority than any of the others. She keeps doing this and keeps getting away with it, what's that about? Is staff so intimidated by her heavy handed tactics that they comply? They are supposed to take direction from the whole Council. I want to see this answered as it has gone beyond ridiculous!
