Two site layout concepts for a new Elk Grove Civic Center, created by professionals from Zaha Hadid Architects and local firm Stantec Architecture, will be unveiled at two simultaneous workshops on February 7.
Drawing heavily from citizen input at a December workshop, lead architect Bozana Komljenovic along with City staff will present the concepts, answer questions and take comments directly from residents.
Further refinements based on public comments at the February 7 workshops will be made before the City Council picks a preferred option in March. Following that decision, a construction and finance plan is expected by the fall.
“Community input received at the public meetings has a direct impact on the layout of our future Civic Center,” Mayor Steven Detrick said. “I encourage the public to attend, share opinions and suggestions, and contribute to the plans for a city-defining landmark.”
To ensure citywide participation, the concurrent workshops will be held at the Elk Grove Library and Hampton Inn (details below).
The two site layout concepts will be available on the City’s website following the workshop. City officials will participate in a live online “City Chat” on Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. on Elk Grove Online (www.elk-grove.com). Staff will present the concepts, answer questions and take comments directly from residents in real-time.
Input can also be provided on the City’s website at: http://www.elkgrovecity.org/city-manager/contact.htm.
More than 76 acres of land on the south side of Elk Grove Boulevard will one day will be the home of a new Civic Center and Community Park for the City of Elk Grove. Located between Big Horn Boulevard and Laguna Springs Drive, the site includes 20 acres for a new Civic Center, and more than 56 acres for a park.
The Civic Center will have state-of-the-art amenities including a library, community center, children’s discovery center, attractive outdoor areas, a commercial development complex, a Veteran’s Hall, governmental facilities and sports facilities.
