UPDATED 1-23

Elk Grove Mayor Steve Detrick and Vice Mayor Jim Cooper will be hosting the inaugural Elk Grove Mayoral Texas Hold’em  and Casino Charity Tournament benefiting Elk Grove Food Bank Services on Friday, April 8, 2011, at Strikes in Elk Grove beginning with registration at 5:00 p.m. Tournament play will commence at 6:00 p.m.  The charity tournament is sponsored by the Elk Grove Community Connection (EGCC).

“With a 30% increase over the past two years in the number of individuals served at the Elk Grove Food Bank Services, we are grateful the EGCC and everyone involved with the Mayors’ Charity Tournament share our focus in ensuring that food, clothing and other services remain available to those who are in need in our community." Marie Jachino, Elk Grove Food Bank Services Executive Director said.

“I am pleased to lend my name to such a worthwhile charity event for our community,” Mayor Detrick said.  “My only request, when first approached by Elk Grove citizens, was that the volunteer committee pick the tournament’s benefactor.  They made an excellent choice in naming Elk Grove Food Bank Services.”

The $50 per player donation includes Elk Grove City Council member Gary Davis’ Award Winning Chili.  “The Inaugural Mayoral Texas Hold’em Tournament is just like my award winning chili: Great ingredients, a tad of spice, and made for a good cause! I am excited to participate,” added Davis .

All proceeds will benefit Elk Grove Food Bank Services. The food bank’s services include the Food Closet, Clothes Closet, Community Garden and Support Works.

One key component to the success of this charity tournament will be sponsorships.  For complete details, further information regarding sponsorships, and/or to register to play in the tournament, please click on the following link:
