Elk Grove City Council Member Sophia Scherman has filed papers to run for the State Assembly according to a report published today.

According to today's edition of The Capitol Morning Report, Scherman has formed "Scherman for Assembly 2012" and with an address of David Bauer, 2150 Gold River Drive, Sacramento.

A three term office holder for Elk Grove's fifth council district, Scherman has never managed to win a plurality of votes and has been widely regarded as occupying the least secure seat once the city reapportions to four districts and a directly elected mayor in 2012

Further complicating matters for Scherman's have been her relations with other council members. With the exception of her political protege and longtime family friend Patrick Hume, Scherman has frequently initiated contentious confrontations from the dais with the three other council members.

Should Scherman survive the Republican primary, she would face two term incumbent Alyson Huber. Huber has twice beaten former San Joaquin County Supervisor Jack Seiglock in a once strong Republican district that has trended Democratic in the last two election cycles.

So is the fix in? Sophia Scherman told people she would be running for Elk Grove’s first elected mayor. But then again, so did Pat Hume back in January of 2009 at a fundraiser telling people to listen up, “I will run for Elk Grove’s first elected Mayor and I will win!”

So if the local Republicans only had a choice between Pat Hume and Sophia Scherman, given Hume’s current persona non grata status with all his long time old guard supporters because of all the scandals, Scherman must have beat out Hume. Even Hume’s staunch supporter Tim Moran resigned his top job abruptly. Something is up with that for sure there, given Hume/Moran/Lent affiliation.

Alyson Huber has nothing to worry about. All her people have to do is watch a few council meetings; they will have hours of “Sophia’s Blunders!”

People have made it known from the podium they will be gunning for Steve Detrick. Jim Cooper is up for reelection as well and Gary Davis is going to run for Elk Grove's first elected Mayor along with Hume.

If the redistricting process has already been tainted in that Sophia’s District Number 5 is gone, which is why Sophia is so quick to announce her candidacy for Assembly, and in turn Hume endorses Scherman and Scherman endorses Hume over Davis, with all five running, given the past animosity, Elected 2012 is going to be a bloodbath.

And the losers here: The citizens of Elk Grove!

The photo caption says she is with "fellow Republicans". The two on the left are staff and their political affiliation should not be mentioned at all. I don't know where Kara lives, but Laura Gill does not live in Elk Grove, so what's the message here?

It is my belief that Sophia has already risen to the level of her incompetence. Unless the Peter Principal is broken, the only thing we have to worry about is that she will somehow maintain a position on the Elk Grove city council.

This has to be a joke. Scherman has neither the temperament or intelligence to be an assembly member.
