First to announce bid to be first directly elected Mayor of Elk Grove
Using the backdrop of his Fifth Annual Community Picnic, Elk Grove Councilman Gary Davis confirmed what has been long rumored in the community - he will seek to be Elk Grove's first directly elected mayor.

Before a large crowd of supporters, Davis was introduced by Cosumnes Community Services District Director Gil Albiani who cited Davis' role in attracting 1,500 jobs to Elk Grove from the California Correctional Health Care Services.
"The quarterback of that move to Elk Grove was Gary Davis," Albiani said.
In his announcement Davis cited jobs ,public safety and the development of arts and entertainment will be the main themes of his campaign.
"Today our campaign for high quality jobs, safe streets and neighborhoods and a stronger Elk Grove economy is officially launched," Davis said to the audience.

Among political supporters in attendance were State Senator Darell Steinberg; Assembly Members Joan Buchanan, Roger Dickinson and Richard Pan; Sacramento County Supervisor Don Nottoli and Cosumnes Community Services Director Rod Brewer.
Also speaking on behalf of Davis was his wife Heather who said she was initially skeptical when her husband expressed interest in running for the office but eventually warmed to the idea.
"We believe there in no one else better for the job," she said.
