At tonight's regular meeting, the Elk Grove City Council will consider implementation of a policy that determines who pays for sidewalk repairs.
According to a report from the city's public works department, the city council directed staff to prepare a policy that would require property owners adjacent to sidewalks in need of repair to share repair costs with the city. State law allows all costs to be placed on adjacent property owners.
Among the details noted in the new policy, the city will inspect every sidewalk every four years and will determine if repairs are needed and the severity. The report also notes that the city has budgeted $100,000 for repairs but estimates costs to be $288,000.
