To select mayor, vice mayor; more incentives for CCHCS

With only two meetings in November and December, the Elk Grove City Council will wrap up business for this year's calendar year with a full agenda when they meet at city hall this Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m.

One of the first orders of business for the council will be to select the mayor and vice mayor for next year. With next year's direct election of the mayor, this year's selection will be the last time the council elects the mayor.

In the past, the position has been traditionally filled on a rotating basis with the current vice mayor being elected mayor. The council's current vice mayor is Jim Cooper, the city's first mayor.

In other business, the council will also consider offering transit incentives to employees of the California Department of Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS). Earlier this year the CCHCS agreed to relocate offices to Elk Grove after the city gave $3.3 million in incentives to the agency.

The city will decide whether or not to accept a staff recommendation that employees of the CCHSC be offered monthly passes for $80 versus the normal fee of $100. It is estimated the cost of this incentive would be $94,000 annually.

Since I don't reside in Elk Grove - although I wish I did - I won't comment on Elk Grove politics or incentives to their businesses and/or private or public employees.
However, I respectfully suggest a proof-reader for your articles before they are published (I volunteer). The beginning of the last paragraph should read: "The City will decide ..." (not 'decided'...).

I do reside in Elk Grove - I'm afraid if we keep handing out those incentives we're going to wake up one morning and won't have change for a cuppa coffee in the drawer. But then again, maybe one of those "sister cities" will bail us out.

This "deal" has already cost Elk Grove millions. Enough is enough.
