With the district she will have represented for 12 years being drawn out of existence later this year, Elk Grove Council Member Sophia Scherman has decided to pursue higher political office. For Scherman this means a run for the newly drawn District Nine seat of the California State Assembly.

With less the four months to the June 5 primary, it is worth examining Scherman's fundraising efforts to date. What will make this year's primary interesting and different is that the top two vote getters will move on to the general election regardless of party affiliation.

Besides Scherman, Democratic Assembly Member Richard Pan and Republican Tony Amador will be vying to make it to the November general election.
