You know its campaign season when you start finding political campaign pieces in your mailbox.

With the primary three months from now and the general election this coming November, earlier this week we received the first of what will surely be hundreds of political mailers. This one was from Congressman Dan Lungren.

What makes this political unique is that is is paid by taxpayers.

As part of congresses public outreach, each member is accorded a budget to inform their constituents of issues. This is the so-called franking privileges and with a few limits, is perfectly legal.

Lungren used this most recent informational mailing to announce three forth-coming town hall meetings and a discussion of the federal budget. Interestingly, while Lungren devotes the mailer to discussing the budget, no where in it does he mention his support of the the Ryan budget proposal.

With Dr, Ami Bera nipping at Lungren's heels, it is noteworthy that the congressman failed to mention his support of the Ryan plan.

Maybe he can use some of our tax money to organize a "Running Of The Elk" type event for publicity, but call it..."Running of the Jackass"

It is also interesting that Lungren is also supporting the restoration of Hetch Hetchy. While his motivations are no-doubt a political maneuver, it would be great to see it restored. Whatever it takes.

Read about it here.
