Big League Dreams is the recommended operator of a proposed sports complex.
During their next meeting this coming Wednesday night, the Elk Grove City Council will consider whether or not to proceed forward with a proposed sports complex and if so, should it contract with Big League Dreams - the apparent winner in a three-way bidding competition.

According to information released this afternoon, Big League Dreams (BLD) scored highest out of three bidders for the sports complex which is to be part of the long-planned Elk Grove Civic Center. In a staff report, BLD had a score of 95 on the request for proposal while Sportsplex USA (SU) also scored a 95 and the Cosumnes Community Services District (CCSD) scored 71. While BDL and SU had identical score, the staff reports recommended BLD saying it was more experienced in drawing big tournaments and had the financial capability to enter a public-private partnership as stipulated in the RFP.

In the reports analysis it noted that the while the for-profit operators like BLD and SU would charge admission fees, it could be also serve as a revenue source for the city. Conversely, the report states a public agency like the CCSD has higher operating costs and that a taxpayer subsidy of $4 million over 10 years would be required.

The reports also notes that if the city does select a private enterprise to operate the facility the "CCSD could be financially harmed by adult leagues moving to the city facility. Conversely, to the extend that adult leagues chose to remain with or return to CCSD, the potential for City facility-derived revenues decreases."

Wednesday night's meeting starts at 6 p.m.
