Elk Grove mayoral candidates Gary Davis and Lynn Wheat continue their respective efforts this week by holding campaign events.

Wheat, who is employing a direct-to-voters campaign, has announced she will hold a meeting at the Starbucks located in the Target shopping center at 7701 Laguna Blvd. this Thursday evening at 7 p.m.

In her press release Wheat said the informal meetings will cover a series of important issues facing the city with this gathering dedicated to the proposed sphere of influence (SOI) application. Wheat, a critic of the SOI which would annex an additional 8,000 acres, asserts it will not improve the city's housing and job imbalance.

Davis, a second term city council member will be hosting a free pancake breakfast and park clean-up this Saturday morning. Following the breakfast, which starts at 8 a.m., volunteers will be asked to assist in a clean-up of Ida Fleming Park. More information about the event is available here.

Certainly two different styles. Gary with ballons and dignitaries and pomp and hoopla....

Lynn...all about the issues and real problems that are facing this city. Seems she's too busy with issues to worry about balloons.

Gary is a nice guy; but someone who has his compass pointed in another direction. Lynn is here because she LIVES,WORKS and wants to be here.

Clearly a choice for the citizens to make. Politics as usual or try something new.

Just received an email saying "we will work hard to share our vision directly with voters." Not sure who "OUR" includes. Also wants more contributions.... "Can you committ to either volunteer 5 hours to the campaign and/or donate $10 today? You're kidding of course....you need more $$$? I'm waiting for the sharing of "OUR" vision and just exactly who the "OUR" includes. Is this a package deal we're getting?

This is not the Gary Davis I thought I knew.

Show him the money....it is clear Gary is building a warchest for future political aspirations. He wants Steinbergs job so bad, it's sad. His comittment to Elk Grove is nothing more than lip service.

Aaaah, $10.00 and one lucky person will be picked to have lunch with him!

I think the problem is not the individual, rather the process.

One can hope Ms. Wheat's message about campaign finance is heard loud and clear by Elk Grove voters. We may not be able to control national political campaign financing, but we can have a say about financing in our little corner of the country.
