In what is developing into a sideshow in the Elk Grove mayoral race, candidate LaWanna Montgomery has denied she vandalized fellow candidate Sophia Scherman's campaign sign following her Saturday night arrest.

In an television interview on Channel 13 yesterday, Montgomery upped the ante and claimed unspecified Elk Grove city council members are conspiring to force her out of the race.

Something isn't quite right with this entire story. How can witnesses positively identify someone with a bag over their head? Why not use their camera phone? Most phones these days are cameras. Why are record the culprit in the act? Why not record the car they saw showing the personalized license plate? Why not follow the car for a bit while calling EGPD?

But one thing is for sure, Sophia is getting alot of press out of this. In every campaign, Sophia plays the minority and the woman card. So gone is her rival in those two categories. And now Sophia can play the victim card which she does so well.

As conpsiracy theories go, stay tuned. I don't think we have heard the last of this story.

Fox 40 reported that the witnesses saw the suspect's car, complete with vanity plates, near the scene. Unless the witnesses were plants from Scherman, which seems highly unlikely, it seems like pretty good evidence.

Aside from this incident, in prior elections Ms. Montgomery make several false claims about her credentials. She has a real credibility problem.

Wonder if Scherman pressed the PD to install a security cam at the site and ID'ed the vehicle, and maybe she has kids who used the car for a prank? Just wonderin' what the real story is here...
