Elk Grove mayoral candidate Sophia Scherman.

Three-term Elk Grove City Council Member Sophia Scherman raised $6,000 in her bid to become the city's first directly elected mayor.

Coming off her defeat in the primary in a bid for the Ninth Assembly district seat, Scherman entered the race in late June. The entire $6,000 in Scherman's coffers came from a personal loan to the campaign.

In her past fundraising Scherman efforts captured donations from a host of real estate interests as well several individuals affiliated with the Republican party causes. While the seat is non-partisan, one of Scherman's opponents, fellow Republican Jerry Braxmeyer, has made had some success tapping this pool of contributors in his fundraising efforts.
